If you haven’t heard the news, we’re inviting data scientist leaders to apply for the opportunity to launch a DataKind chapter in their city.
Pete, our data engineer, built this cool interactive map so you can see what cities have already applied. It updates automatically as new applications come in, but if you’re as excited as we are, we won’t tell anyone if you manually hit refresh!
Don’t see your city on the map yet? Don’t worry. We’ll only be launching 3-5 new chapters this year, but there’s still time for you to apply. We’re accepting applications until May 4 and we want to hear from you!
This year, data scientists in up to five of these cities will be launching DataKind chapters in their communities. This means they’ll be starting new Meetups where people from the nonprofit and charity sectors can meet with data scientists and start to work together to address big problems with data. It means they’ll be organizing new DataDives where people can spend a weekend flexing their data skills to help charities and nonprofits explore and answer questions with data. And long term, they’ll be forming new teams of elite DataCorps volunteers who will partner up with amazing organizations to bring about real social change.
If that sounds like something you want to spearhead in your city, please don’t wait to apply. We’d love to see your city on the map, and work with you to grow this data for good network!
