Looking for Data Heroes in Leeds!

March 27, 2015

Do you want to use your data skills to make the world a better place? Then join us in Leeds on April 17-19th! Sign-up here!

The next DataKind UK DataDive will be in Leeds and we're looking for people with data skills to volunteer. The event, in partnership with the Young Foundation, Leeds City Council and Joseph Rowntree Foundation, will support three local organisations to help them understand and answer their data questions.

DataDives are weekend events that bring the data science community together with the non-profit community to tackle tough data problems in a short period of time. We have selected three data-for-good projects to work on over the weekend.

We will be working with Voluntary Action Leeds on their Young Lives Leeds project to help them interpret the results from 10 focus groups with young people. With another charity called Volition we will map the mental health support services available in the city and try to find out how they match up to the need. And finally, we will be working with the Money Information Centre at Leeds City Council to understand the impact of welfare changes on financial security of residents in the city.

If getting stuck into these data challenges sounds like your idea of fun then please join us! We are lookiing for data analysts, statisticians and coders who like crunching numbers and donating their time and skills to tackle tough social issues.

The event is free and will take place at the ODI Leeds (Duke Street, LS9 8AG) over the course of a weekend. You just need to bring your laptop and a curious, data-savvy mind.
