Meet Allison Hirata, DataKind’s Director, Product Management. As our first product management leader, Allison is helping establish the processes, systems, and cross-functional ways of working that enable DataKind to build and deliver enterprise products across our portfolio, beginning with education.
Drawing on extensive experience leading product strategy for education technology companies, startups, and nonprofits, he brings a thoughtful, user-centered approach to building products that create meaningful impact. His collaborative leadership and product expertise are helping strengthen how DataKind turns ideas into scalable solutions for social impact.

What were you up to before DataKind?
I worked in product and leadership roles across companies and nonprofits at the intersection of education, learning, and technology. I have built products for people at every stage, from pre-K to lifelong learners, but regardless of audience, my focus has always been the same: helping people engage with knowledge in ways that are meaningful and actionable. Joining DataKind feels like a natural evolution of that work, bringing a product mindset to data problems in impact areas that matter most.
Why are you excited to join DataKind?
My personal and professional journey has been shaped by the kindness and generosity of others, and I want to pay that forward. I have seen how well-designed products can steer meaningful change. DataKind takes that same spirit and directs it toward the communities that stand to benefit most. I’m excited to bring my product experience to an organization where the mission and the product are so deeply aligned. There’s nothing more motivating than that.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I have two small children, so a lot of my free time these days involves playgrounds and libraries! Outside of that, I try to stay connected to my roots in Brazil, catching up with friends and family, and traveling whenever I can.
