Event Code of Conduct: Providing a Safe, Inclusive, and Collaborative Environment

One of our favorite mottos at DataKind is “Be tough on ideas, gentle on people.” People are at the center of all that we do, so it’s critical that we have mutual respect for one another and aim to exemplify our core values. We want to provide an environment where people can express their full talents, curiosity, personality, and perspectives in an effort to collaboratively accomplish great things! If you have any questions or concerns at any point during the event concerning inappropriate behavior, you can reach out to conduct@datakind.org.

  • Join our Slack workspace and review pinned messages in the #announcement channel

  • View our kickoff recording and presentation slides of progress so far
  • Decide which project(s)you want to start with, and join the Slack project channel for that project.
  • Share your GitHub name and you will be added.
  • Once in that channel, look at the pinned messages for the project brief and review. Look for tasks and progress updates from volunteers. You can send messages in the Slack project channels to coordinate.
  • As you stop/finish tasks, save your work in your project’s shared google drive or github!
  • You don’t have to finish every task you start – just give a heads up when you’re moving on to something else, and leave some notes for the next person who might pick the work up!
  • Feel free to ask questions in the project channel or the event #helpdesk channel in Slack.
