Welcome Mallory Sheff, DataKind’s Next Portfolio Manager

May 21, 2020

We’re incredibly excited to announce that Mallory Sheff has joined us as DataKind’s next Portfolio Manager.

As a member of the Product Team, Mallory will oversee a portfolio of volunteer-led projects using cutting-edge technology to help inspiring organizations worldwide make a greater impact. In this highly visible and high-impact role, she’ll also build strong relationships with DataKind’s amazing nonprofit partners and work closely with our pro bono data scientists. One of the many reasons we’re thrilled to have Mallory onboard is that she has exactly the blended background that DataKinders exemplify - she has a deep background in public health and social impact in multiple countries and applies systems thinking and data-driven decision-making to all the work that she does. Learn more about her background below.

Please join us in giving Mallory a very warm DataKind welcome!

What were you up to before DataKind?

Prior to joining DataKind, I was a Senior Program Officer at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health where I managed two large scale health system interventions in Ghana and Tanzania. During my time there, I conducted implementation research activities to strengthen primary healthcare, with specific emphasis on maternal, newborn, adolescent, and child health, and collaborated with key policymakers to strengthen evidence-based decision making. Prior to that, I had the opportunity of working in knowledge translation in Kenya, and supported a program of comprehensive care for HIV-positive children in South Africa.

Why are you excited to join DataKind?

I’m excited to be joining a team of like-minded professionals and volunteers who are driven by a passion to do good while upholding professional excellence. I’ve also heard that recipe sharing is a big thing between DataKinders, so I’m very much looking forward to that!

What do you like to do in your free time?

When I’m not discovering new recipes from the cookbooks I have collected over the recent years, I love to explore the diversity of dance classes that New York has to offer - ballet, salsa, contemporary, Argentine tango - I’ll take them all! I’m also an avid reader and love sharing book and podcast recommendations with friends and colleagues. But, above all, as a French national, nothing can beat a glass of rosé on a hot summer day.
