Senior Manager, Technical Projects
Remote (East Coast Hours)

In this role, you’ll be an integral part of DataKind’s Product team where you will plan, design, and execute a portfolio of strategic projects with the aim of Empowering Frontline Health Workers and Community Health Systems

This is a fixed term, staff position from October 2022 through Sept 2023, with the possibility of extension.

Location

This is a remote position that can be based anywhere in the U.S. and requires the majority of working hours each day to fall between 8am and 6pm Eastern Standard Time. This will enable interaction with our predominantly Europe and Africa based partners and volunteer teams. 

Salary Range
$95,000 - $105,000

Actual salary from the range above will be based on the candidate’s experience and internal salary equity scan of active employee(s) with similar role and experience.

About the Opportunity 

This is an integral role that sits at the intersection of DataKind’s Product team, our frontline health project Partners, and DataKind’s expert, volunteer data science and development teams. Reporting to the Director of Product and Programs, and working closely with the Head of Data Science, this role will be centered on managing select partner relationships and overseeing all aspects of technical project management for the design and timely execution of our current Frontline Health Systems portfolio. What You’ll Do 

  • Work with manager to develop annual and quarterly plan to deliver on select, funded projects within DataKind’s Frontline Health portfolio including tracking systems to ensure timely and high quality completion of grant-committed deliverables
  • Support the Product team with managing multiple stakeholders to complete activities in the lead up to deployment of a DataKind developed analytics product with strategic Partner-clients
  • Work closely with the Head of Data Science to prepare resources to execute the technical strategy to open source the DataKind developed product 
  • Provide direct oversight to professional volunteer team(s) through DataKind’s Discovery and Design processes, engage with Partner-clients, and develop project design briefs and solution sustainability plans in compliance with DataKind’s quality standards 
  • Recruit expert volunteers with appropriate skills from DataKind’s community of volunteers, or beyond, as needed to execute on projects; prepare projects for a seamless launch
  • Monitor quality of outputs and support volunteers to comply with code quality and best practices with the assistance of the Head of Data Science
  • Ensure volunteers are engaged and their efforts are celebrated throughout the project
  • Proactively engage with Partners (and support volunteers to do so) throughout the project life cycle to ensure a valued partnership experience
  • Cross-team collaboration: provide concise and specific updates to other key departments as needed; support funder-facing teams with reports on project progress
  • Manage organizational record keeping using shared resources such as Google Drive and Salesforce; contribute to improving institutional knowledge management

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Alignment with DataKind mission and values and comfort working across lines of difference (culture, identity, and time zone)
  • 5+ years' experience managing projects with measurable results and within budget constraints and either: 
    • 2+ years experience managing technical teams; and/or
    • 2+ years' experience spearheading complex, multi-stakeholder projects
  • Ability to foster trusted partnerships that elevate partner / client experience
    • Ability to analyze partner or client needs
    • Experience helping (especially non-technical) stakeholders understand the technical product, solution or project process
  • Product / technical project documentation or other knowledge management skills to support shared learning - strongly preferred but not required
  • Experience in community health / public health sector - preferred but not required
