About the Opportunity

DataKind's success depends on the mission-driven organizations who partner with us and the data scientists who volunteer to address their needs. Come learn about managing relationships and mobilizing community with the team responsible for these key audiences. DataKind’s Global Volunteer team is looking for an Intern for the Spring ‘23 semester. From developing and organizing resources to planning events, you'll help DataKind's model work effectively and learn key skills for your future career. Reporting to the Director, Global Volunteers, the Intern will bring community engagement orientation to support the Global Volunteers team. 

In return, the Global Volunteers Intern will receive hands-on exposure to the inner workings of a small within a small sized nonprofits as well as front-row seat to community engagement and what makes organizations function behind the scenes. We’re looking for someone who’s eager to learn the ins and outs of engaging communities like volunteers and nonprofits and able to present information succinctly and accessible, from research summaries to event planning to standard procedures/new policies.

 

What You’ll Do

Event Planning

  • Provide administrative support and planning for community events
  • Promote events to our community
  • Set-up and manage Eventbrite and Meet-up pages as it relates to events
     

Training/Resource Support

  • Conduct research on community engagement related topics and provide recommendations support in drafting policies and/or procedures
  • Conduct research on engaging nonprofits and provide recommendation support in drafting engagement strategies
  • Provide support on the development or updating of resources

 

Community mobilization + engagement

  • Provide administrative support in the recruitment and training volunteers
  • Engage our community within our Slack community with news, updates, and volunteer opportunities
  • Provide customer service by monitoring and responding to our community inbox email
     

No previous experience in any of the areas above is necessary - we’ll teach you any context or process you need to know!

 

Application Requirements 

  • Must be able to dedicate 30-40 hours a week from January/February through May (Spring ‘23 semester)
  • This is an unpaid internship so only candidates who will receive funds/stipend either via a grant or any other funding source or college credits for the completion of this internship will be considered

 

Intern Requirements (in addition to any program requirements, if applicable)

  • Alignment with DataKind values, particularly our commitment to anti-racism
  • Inquisitive and eager to learn
  • Highly organized and detail oriented with a commitment to checking work twice
  • Strong time management skills with ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Proficiency using GSuite tools (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
  • Customer service orientation
  • Ability to work effectively from home, including possession of a computer that can use DataKind’s systems (GSuite, Slack, Asana, Salesforce) and a way of joining video calls 
  • Passionate and open-minded about the data for good movement
